Explanation

MOUNTAIN, just like that, is not a kigo.

Mountains are challengeing in every season.
But quite a few kigo with mountains exist.
Let us look at them.

Kigo for Spring

mountains smiling, yama warau 山笑う
This personification of the mountains goes on through the four seasons, according to the Chinese painter Guo Xi 郭熙:

The mountains in spring are light and seductive as if smiling:
the mountains in summer have a blue-green colour
which seems to be spread over them;
the mountains in autumn are bright and tidy as if freshly painted;
the mountains in winter are sad and tranquil as if sleeping.

Especially in Hida and Shinshu, when the paths are too small for horsed to transport luggage, it was done by special porters. These mountain porters also worked as guides for mountain huts.
